After over six years at members.aol.com/m3may/longpatrol.html, The Long Patrol is packing up everything and moving to a new home. All features of the site have been relocated to www.longpatrolclub.com
With our new home and new webspace will comes a few changes. For starters, this means The Redwall Newsline and RWTV are also moving. Their new addresses are newsline.longpatrolclub.com and rwtv.longpatrolclub.com, respectively.
There's one more thing I'm sure you guys would find far more interesting, though.
There's been some talk lately about ezBoard and their increasing "pay us or you can't do stuff" mentality. So, I decided that, as long as I was moving the site, I might as well move the board, too. As such, I'm ditching ezBoard. I could have looked into other free boards, but that wouldn't have solved anything, it would have only put us back at the starting line to go through all of this again. So, what I did do was buy a vBulletin for the new site.
What this means is that we'll be rid of pop-up ads, even if you've got scripting on. We'll have no banners on the board, either. Zero ads.
I considered just CSC'ing this board, but that would be rewarding ezBoard's tactics and would have cost me more in the long run. Furthermore, I decided that having complete control over the site's message board was far more preferable, as it opens up more avenues for the sites themselves (as you'll notice in the new Newsline design). This also means downtime won't be as big (if at all) an issue now. No features will be denied to users because they're not CSC. And we'll get a pretty cool board out of the deal.
So, effective immediately, The Long Patrol Forum is leaving the halls of ezBoard and switching over to its new vBulletin home. Full details on changes that have occurred will be covered over on the new board, forums.longpatrolclub.com
A word of warning, however. There is to be no name stealing. Slagar gets Slagar over there, Lyrian gets Lyrian, Dandin gets Dandin, and so on and so forth. You don't need to use the exact same name if you don't want to, but no taking someone else's. If anyone is unsure whether or not a name is available, then feel free to ask me and I'll let you know.
The ezBoard will remain up for the foreseeable future, so anybody wishing to archive any posts may do so now. And, no, I won't be turning this board over to someone else, so don't bother asking. ;)
